Pest of the Season: Fleas

In the mid-summer, we’re at the peak of ‘Flea Season’. It’s hot enough out that pets can track in fleas. Infestations typically develop at this time, in the middle of July. You may not be able to notice the fleas at first, but by late July, you may notice your pets may carry some uninvited guests. They become more visible when the population grows to this point, and it’s usually by late July that we see a rash of calls in regards to flea treatments.

What are seasonal pests?

Seasonal pests are pests that come out cyclically throughout the year. For example, the current seasonal pest is the flea. However, into late summer, crickets become the dominant pest that we’re tasked with controlling. By the time fall rolls around, lady beetles and cluster flies take center stage. As the fall season progresses, rodents and hibernating pests like to come out. These include Box elder bugs, and Asian lady beetles.
